Callistemon Kings Park Special, is one of my… many… favourite native trees in the garden for vibrant bright red bottle brush flowers that attract nectar feeding birds, bees and butterflies to our garden.
Kings Park is a bushy evergreen Australian native tree that has attractive weeping branches of grey / green foliage and as mentioned above, vibrant deep red bottlebrush flowers during the Spring through to Autumn Months.
Kings Park will grow up to 4.5 metres tall by 3 metres wide in full sun, can perform ok in a little shade, but really needs the sun to gain those vibrant flowers, …. if you put it in too much shade, you will just end up with a droopy shag of s–t, instead of an impressive specimen tree. Kings park also makes a great screen or hedge.
Kings Park is tough and hardy and will perform well in pretty much most soil types, is tolerant of of dry periods, frosts and poor drainage. Regular pruning will help to maintain a desirable shape, improve flowering, new compact growth and vigour. Use a slow release fertiliser once per year, formulated for Australian native plants and mulch well before each Summer.
Kings Park is something we have available most of the year… except when completely sold out!!
