Dodonea Viscosa Purpurea or native purple hop bush is a fast growing upright evergreen shrub with dramatic purplish bronze to violet foliage and masses of purplish to red winged seed capsules on the ends of the branches.
Dodonea will grow up to 3 metres tall by 2 metres wide in full sun to partial shade and is hardy in most sites and conditions including poor soils, but performs best in well drained soils.
Dodonea once established will tolerate frost, coastal conditions, drought and is tough and hardy.
Dodonea responds well to a regular prune to retain density and compact habit.
Dodonea is ideal as a specimen tree on its own, or planted into native or exotic gardens, but also makes a fast growing hedge plants, screen, is excellent for foliage contrast to help break up the green in the garden and its foliage can be used for indoor decoration or flower arrangements.
