Salvia Microphylla Angel Wings is one of my favourite small bushy Salvias.
Angel Wings has a long lasting, stunning display of colour, with frilly, pale baby pink flowers that appear to be almost white for most months of the year. It never seems to stop flowering and if it has, then it isn’t long before it is back in flower again.
Salvia Angel Wings will grow up to 85cms tall by 60cms wide in full sun, it can handle partial shade at our nursery in Monbulk, but we get more prolific flowering in fuller sun aspects and it prefers well drained soils.
Salvia Angel Wings is tough and hardy and will handle our extremities of hot and cold weather here in Monbulk throughout the year, including cold nights in winter and light frosts.
Like a lot of the plants we grow here at Paddys Plants, Salvia Angel Wings is highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators who are attracted to the stunning display of flowers throughout the year.
Angel Wings look great in the garden on their own, but even better as a border along a pathway, or a small hedge, mass planted, in perennial gardens, cottage gardens, mixed planters, pots and containers.
I find a light trim regularly ( i prune mine every 4 months), throughout the year is best for Salvia Angel Wings to promote compact bushy habit and repeat flowering. Fertilise once per year with an all purpose fertiliser and liquid feed after pruning to encourage new growth and flowering.
At Paddys Plants, we do our best to give you the right information, that we have received, in regards to our Salvia range, there are hundreds of species very similar in colour, style and growth habit and we sadly, have been the scorn of some Salvia experts, I would like to quote a grower, that I admire and respect and often turn to for further knowledge and advice myself, in my mind her knowledge on salvias and perennials, is the best and most thourough, in Sue Templeton ” The average gardener doesn’t care about the exactness but just wants to know what sort of plant it is”. I find, Sue Templetons page, is the best page I have read for information on Salvias and other perennials here in Australia.
Angel Wings are versatile and look great all year round, check our availability and grab some for your garden today.
