Tagetes Lemmonii, Mexican Marigold, is a fast growing shrub that has strongly aromatic dark green foliage which exudes an aroma of ripe passionfruit when brushed against and for most of the year, including the winter months, is covered in a mass of bright yellow daisy like flowers.
Passionfruit marigold is easily grown and can grow up to 1 metre tall by 1.5metre wide, making it ideal as a stunning, fragrant border or small hedge for year round colour. It is frost tolerant and drought tolerant once established.
Passionfruit marigold grows best in full sun, it can handle partial shade, but for best results, the more sun the better, plant in well drained soil and it responds well to regular pruning and liquid feed to encourage a more compact habit.
The fragrant foliage and continuous flowers are what make Passionfruit Marigold a stand out in the garden, they are especially good in cottage gardens, sensory gardens, perennial gardens, larger pots, containers, mixed plantings, borders, shrubberies and great as a back drop plant.
Whilst i am not always a fan of the fragrance of common Marigolds, I just love the fresh passionfruit perfume and bright flowers of these in the garden
